Schenectady, NY-George L. Chevalier, 86, of Fairview Ave., passed away on Saturday morning, January 2, 2016 at home in Schenectady. George was born on July 1,1929 in Troy, son of the late Leo and Eva (Gagnon) Chevalier and educated in local schools.Mr. Chevalier was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean War Conflict.He enlisted on November 24, 1947 and was honorably discharged on November 23, 1954.He was united in marriage with his wife Arlene, who preceded him in death on May 31, 2006 after over 50 years of marriage. He leaves his children, David Chevalier and wife Kim, Richard Chevalier of Guilderland and Ronald Chevalier of Schenectady; his brother, Raymond Chevalier of Troy; his grandson, Christopher; nieces, nephews and cousins. George was very active with the Disabled American Veterans where he was past commander and served many other important positions.He found much pleasure in bowling where he was active in several leagues.Most of all, George took much pride in being with his family, along with his canine companion, Goldie.He was of the Catholic faith. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 9:00 AM until 10:00AM at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady.The funeral will commence at 10 am also on Saturday at the funeral home with Father Vincent Ciotoli, pastor, officiating.Procession will follow to St. Cyril Cemetery, Rotterdam, where he will be laid to rest and military honors will be offered by the US Navy.
