Alfred Eugene "Gene" Falcone

Niskayuna - Alfred Eugene “Gene” Falcone, 90, passed away at home on Monday September 25, 2023.

Gene was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Alfred and Clara Falcone. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School and attended Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1954 he entered the Army. Gene who played both saxaphone and clarinet, was assigned to the West Point Band. While in the military Gene met his future wife, Flo, who was serving in the WACs. Upon completing his military service Gene received the first full scholarship awarded by the University of Georgia for music. After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree, Gene began teaching music in the South Colonie School District, where he taught for many years, retiring in 1992. He was a long time Band Director for Colonie Central Schools and the Colonie Fire Dept. Marching Band. While still in high school he performed with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and resumed playing with the orchestra after college. Gene also performed with the Schenectady Light Opera and at venues including Proctors and the Colonie Coliseum; performing with such music notables as Englebert Humperdink, Johnny Mathis, and Tom Jones. His memberships include: Vice Chairman of the Schenectady County Republican Committee, Niskayuna Republican Committee, past president of the N.Y.S Teacher’s Union (NYSUT), the Niskayuna Little League, past Adjutant, Commander and Treasurer of American Legion Post 1092. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.  Gene’s dedicated service in his community earned him the Colonie Police Award for his involvement with Colonie youth and the Mary Freeley Award of the South Colonie PTA.

He was the beloved husband of Florence “Flo” Falcone; beloved father of Claire Falcone of Niskayuna, Alfred (Dana) Falcone Jr. of Boston, MA., Albert (Deborah) Falcone of Rotterdam; loving grandfather of Alissa, Michael (Gabriella) and Joseph (Alexis) Falcone; loving great grandfather of Oliver. Gene is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Gene was predeceased by his granddaughter Erica and his sister Dorothy Marra.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 5-7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 10:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, Nott Street at Seward Place. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Contributions in Gene’s name may be made to St. Anthony’s Bread in care of the Church. Thank you to Dr. Dibble and Dr. Sonagere for their care.
