Gary L Pavlic

February 27, 1947 — September 22, 2021

Troy - Gary L. Pavlic died unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center on September 22, 2021. He was the cherished and devoted son of the late Stanley and Julia DeCata Pavlic. Gary graduated from Duanesburg Central HS and earned a BS in Human Development from Empire State College. He was an accomplished public servant who held positions with the NYS AIDS Institute and the NYS Department of Health. Gary loved the City of Troy where he was a resident for over 30 years. He was an activist who worked tirelessly on behalf of Troy’s residents. Gary served as secretary to the City Council before being elected to the County Legislature in 2012. He also served as co-chairman of the Friends of Pawling Park. Of Gary’s many accomplishments, he will long be remembered as a founding member of the Capital District Pride Center as well as his lifelong work on behalf of the LGBTQ community. Gary was a wonderful, generous, and loyal friend. He loved animals and found great joy in his two cats, Tigger and Chloe. Gary leaves behind his longtime companion and soulmate, Don Haag. He also leaves behind many cousins in the US and Australia, including Mary Ann Ricciardi and Paula Murphy who were more like his sisters as well as his goddaughter, Dr. Jessica Noonan. Calling hours will held on Saturday, October 2nd from 9-11am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady. A service will follow, beginning at 11am. Gary will be laid to rest with his parents at Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Gary’s name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 139 S. Lake Ave., Albany, NY 12208 or to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302 or to a charity of your choice.
