Rotterdam – Gary A. Nichols, 68, passed away on Sunday, July 15th, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn. A lifelong area resident, Gary was born in Schenectady to his parents, the late Frederick G. and Marion R. (Hane) Nichols. After graduating from Draper High School in 1968, Gary went to SUNY Cobleskill and then enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1970-1973. Gary worked for over 30 years as a steamfitter at General Electric, retiring in 2012. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed playing golf, listening to music and taking rides in the country. He loved spending time on the beach in the Caribbean with his longtime companion, Tricia. He also enjoyed watching sports and was a diehard NY Giants and NY Rangers fan. Besides his parents, Gary is predeceased by one brother, John Nichols. Gary leaves behind his spouse of 19 years, Patricia A. Lavoy, his daughter, Laura Wilson (Scott), his 2 grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily as well as his other daughter, Nicole Nichols, his brother, Frederick Nichols (Susan) and sister, Carolyn Duffy (Michael) and several nephews. Calling hours will be on Friday, July 20thfrom 4-6pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home,1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Services with military honors will begin at6pm.
