Rotterdam, NY - Frederick A. Rufo died peacefully on Wednesday, May 25th, 2023 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his loving children. He was born in Schenectady, NY in 1941, the son of the late Frederick Rufo Sr. and Antoinette Carringi. He is survived by his sisters Maryann Rufo and Diane Windelspecht.

He grew up on Hungry Hill where he built lifelong friendships and attended McKinley Middle School where he met the love of his life, Anna Gallo.  He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, and upon graduation he served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He married Anna and they started married life in North Carolina, and after his honorable discharge from the military he and Anna moved to Rotterdam and started a family.

He is predeceased by his wife Anna of 50 years, and leaves behind his daughter Deborah and son in law Robert Cosmer, his sons David and Michael Rufo, and granddaughter Jaimee and (Anthony) Elliott.

He was a contractor, owning his own business for many years, retiring in 2014.

Fred enjoyed planting his garden, cooking, and meeting up with friends for breakfast and dinner.

His greatest joy was the time spent with his family, especially dinners, holidays, bantering about politics, watching the Yankees and a good dessert.

Fred’s good humor and generous spirit touched everyone he met and his family wishes to thank all those that helped us and Fred this past year. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Nolan for your patience and care, his nurses Maura Russo and Danielle Laferriere for the compassion and kindness.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotterdam Boys and Girl’s Club.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be celebrated at a later date.

Interment will be private at the St. Johns Cemetery, Schenectady, NY.
