Rotterdam- Frederick W. Miller, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 23. Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick J. Miller and the late Marion Gould Miller. He was married to Murphy (Kloss) Miller. They were together for 36 years. Fred was a graduate of Waterford High School, where he was voted most popular. He was on many various sporting teams throughout his high school career,including baseball and basketball. He then went on to attend college in El Paso, Texas, where he was a resident advisor in the dorms. Fred was a UPS driver for over 30 years before retiring and becoming an umpire with theSchenectady County Umpires organization. Hetrained officials for SBUO and Eastern New York Umpire Association for the last 10 years.He was well known for his precise calls and sharp knowledge of the game. Fred was the "2nd" funniest person in his family and was constantly reminded that by his wife and daughter. One of his biggest passions was golf. He loved to golf with his family, friends or anyone with some clubs and a decent tee time. He was a superfan of the UNC Men's basketball team and traveled to the NCAA March Madness tournament with his friends each year. His favorite restaurantwas his mother-in-law's kitchen. His proudest accomplishment in life was being a devotedfather to hisdaughterMorgan.Fred thoroughly enjoyed life and most of all simply hanging out with his "buds". Fred is survived by his loving wife Murphy, his daughter Morgan, his in-law's Virginia and John Kloss,his grand-cat Bombay,his sister-in-law Paula (Harry) Moreash, his nephew H.T. Moreash, as well asrelatives and many close friends. With his parents, Fred is also predeceased by his sisters; Dorothy Fernet and Donna Altamarino. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 28 from 5pm-7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady, NY 12306. Funeral services will begin at 9:15am on Saturday, January 29 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland. Fred will be laid to rest in St. Cyril & Method Cemetery in Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Schenectady CityMission,American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Fred will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
