Schenectady- Fred D. Marcantonio, 92, at rest Monday May 5, 2014. Fred was born in Utica, the son of Donato and Concetta Marcantonio. He later resided in Amsterdam and finally settled with his family in Schenectady. He attended local schools and later served as a United States Navy Seaman 1st Class during WWII on a Navy PBY Catalina aircraft, logging over 3000 hours of flight time from Jacksonville Naval Air Station to the Mariana Islands in the South Pacific. After his military service, Fred worked for the General Electric Co. as a machinist and a group leader for the Small AC Motors Division until his retirement in 1984 with 35 years of service. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Seniors. Fred enjoyed fishing, gardening and swam daily at the Ramada Inn and Sunnyview Hospital. Fred was the beloved husband of 55 years to Elvira Catherine (Civitello) Marcantonio who died in 2005; beloved father of Daniel J. Marcantonio and Joseph A. Marcantonio, and Michael B. (Roseanne) Marcantonio; beloved brother of the late Margaret Bialobok; beloved brother-in-law of Mary DeMatteo and the late Steve Bialobok; loving grandfather ofAnthony J. Marcantonio Sr., Michael F. (Marcela) Hopkins-Marcantonio, Michael S. Marcantonio, Kathryn L. Marcantonio;great- grandfather ofGiavana A. Marcantonio, Karyn and Gabrielle Hopkins, Nevaeha M. Marcantonio and Anthony J. Marcantonio Jr.; There will be no calling hours. All are invited this Friday, May, 9, to a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church,Schenectady.A private service with military honors will follow in the Saratoga National Cemetery. The family requests no flowers please. Anyone who wishes may send contributions in Fred's memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St. Schenectady, N.Y. 12303
