Schenectady - Frank Solghan of Schenectady, NY was born on June 3, 1946 and passed away after a short illness on Monday, May 29, 2023 in Ellis Hospital at the age of 76.
Frank is survived by his sister Julie DeLeo and her husband John of New Paltz, NY and his brother Nicholas Solghan and his wife Kim of Rotterdam NY, as well as nieces and nephews and his good friend and roommate, Bob DeLair.
Frank was born and raised in Schenectady, NY. He was the loving son of Nicholas Solghan and Mary Solghan both deceased. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School in 1964, Frank attended Adelphi University to study pre-med but decided to follow his dream of singing professionally so he moved to New York City in 1968. He was a very talented tenor and his booming voice made him one of the final candidates for the lead part in Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway.
Frank was also an excellent cook and ended up making his delicious cheesecakes for a few years which he sold to New York City restaurants. Frank had various jobs in New York City besides being a chef. He worked as a cab driver, an insurance actuary, a house sitter, and he then returned to Schenectady, the city he loved.
A devout Roman Catholic, Frank would visit hospitals and deliver communion to those who were unable to leave their beds.
A funeral mass for Frank will be held on Friday, June 2 at 11am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St., Schenectady.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like people to make donations to their local Mental Health Association.
