Frank J. Miele passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady on October 20, 1924, he was the son of Liberato and Antoinette (Viscusi) Miele. Frank worked at SOFCO Inc. for 50 years before retiring. After retiring from SOFCO he kept busy working various part time jobs, including helping his son with the family cleaning business. One of his favorite things to do was for he and his wife to host Christmas eve dinner for family and friends for many years. Frank loved sports and enjoyed watching baseball, football, and especially wrestling. He enjoyed going to the Times Union Center with his grandson Randy Brooks when wrestling came to town. A long time tradition was treating his son and grandson to breakfast every Saturday morning for over 25 years. He and his wife attended Trinity Christian Church and more recently Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God, serving as an usher at both churches. Frank was best known for his generosity and kindness to those around him. Frank received a Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army as a PFC, 23rd Infantry in Western Europe under General Patton.In October he had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C. with his son Michael to participate in the Leatherstocking Honor Flight for WWII Veterans. Frank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Concetta (Iozzia) Miele, their children, Becky Brooks (Chuck) and Michael Miele (Peggy), grandchildren, Randy Brooks (Kristen), Jennifer Brooks Smitkin (Greg) and Hannah Miele, great grandson, Connor Jay Brooks, his sisters, Helen Suraci and Angie Masullo (Frank). Frank is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Mike Miele and Joseph Miele, sisters, Carmella Neikityk, Connie Grecco and Rose Masullo. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 5-7:30 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.Funeral services, with military honors, will immediately follow the calling hours at 7:30 at the funeral home. Family and friends may gather on Tuesday morning, 10 am at the funeral home.Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
