Schenectady – Francis M. Palleschi, age 93, passed away on February 20th, 2018 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Francis was born on May 13th, 1924 and was the son of the late Michael and Christine (Papa) Palleschi. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Francis honorably served his country in the US Army during World War II, serving in Northern France and Normandy with the 357 Harbor Craft Co. After his discharge, Francis worked at the General Electric Co. as an assembler in the large motors department retiring after 44 years of service. Francis was a member of the YMCA for 83 years and was active in handball and swimming. Francis enjoyed camping at Sacandaga Lake, boating and water skiing. He was an avid handball player having won a NYS Championship and other various tournaments. He swam at any opportunity at the YMCA and advocated for the YMCA youth program. Francis’ ultimate joy was spending time with his family and friends. On July 7th, 1946 Francis married his beloved wife of 71 years, Philomena DiManno Palleschi. Besides his wife, Philomena, Francis is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Carl) Conti, his son, Frank (Barbara) Palleschi, 5 grandchildren, Craig Conti, Carla Leto, Krystal Benoit, Ryan Palleschi and Michelle Ager and 3 great grandchildren, Michael Palleschi, Angela Leto and Khrystian Benoit. Francis is predeceased by 2 sons, Joseph Palleschi in 1984 and Michael Palleschi in 2009 as well as one grandson, Michael D. Palleschi in 2011. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 1st at 11am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St. in Schenectady to which relatives and friends are invited. Inurnment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville. Memorial contributions in Francis’ name may be made to any youth program at Capital District YMCA, Glenville Branch, 127 Droms Rd., Glenville, NY 12302.
