Floyd C. Bowdish

October 27, 1942 — December 27, 2025

Schenectady

GLENVILLE - Floyd C. Bowdish, 83, formerly of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully December 27, 2025, at Glendale Home in Glenville, New York.

Floyd was born on October 27, 1942, on the family farm in Charleston, New York. He graduated from Fonda-Fultonville Central School in 1961 and shortly after enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a Fire Control Operator in Homestead, Florida. After completing his military service, Floyd returned to New York and began his career with General Electric in Schenectady where he was a steelworker for the next 33 years. He worked his way up to become a team leader and was also recognized many times for his safety suggestions which were implemented by General Electric.

Floyd married the love of his life, Dorothy, in September 1965. Together they purchased a home in Rotterdam where they lived for the next 56 years and raised their three daughters. Floyd joined the Rotterdam Junction Volunteer Fire Department in 1968. During his 52 years of service to the community he served as treasurer, held various firematic positions, and later became Captain of Fire Police. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing with his grandchildren, metal detecting, camping, gardening, and of course, “playing the numbers.” In retirement, Floyd and Dorothy enjoyed many trips to Maine and Cape Cod to visit New England lighthouses, camping throughout New York and New Hampshire, wintering in Myrtle Beach in their RV, and spending time with family. He and Dorothy often enjoyed long car rides to anywhere, often stopping at a favorite restaurant along the way.

Floyd is survived by daughters Jennifer, Karen, and Chrissy (Timothy), along with his six grandchildren Joshua (Olivia), Matthew, Andrew (Jessica), Nathan (Sydney), Bailey, and Christopher. He is also survived by brothers George (Deborah) Bowdish and John (Vicki) Bowdish; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Floyd was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, parents Paul and Freda (Montanye) Bowdish; sisters Marlene Smith, Sylvia Wojick, Sandra Quill, and Nancy Keyfauver; and son-in-law David.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Glendale Home for the loving care given to Floyd during his time there. Your dedication, support, and friendship gave him a sense of home and community. He loved the many games of Bingo and everyone on Erie Crossing knew Floyd would always choose the candy as his winning prize.

Floyd will be deeply missed for his contagious smile, quick wit, endless love for family, and his perfectly timed internal clock that always knew exactly when it was noon, “LUNCHTIME!”

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Monday, January 5, 2026, for calling hours from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home at 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. A prayer service will conclude the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Cyril and Method Cemetery at 611 Duanesburg Road in Rotterdam.
