Mrs. Evelyn Marie Niedhammer aged 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10th at Ellis Hospital. Born on May 31 1925 in Schenectady, to Thaddeus and Marie Zaborowski. She attended Mount Pleasant High School, served in the Drafting Department in The General Electric Company during WWII. She was known to all as a model homemaker, whose family and friends were the recipients of her delicious meals, her famous cookies, and her warm and welcoming smile. She was a devoted wife to her husband Edwin for over 70 years. She possessed a rich and vibrant religious faith that included daily rosary recitations, and a special devotion to Saint Anthony. She was a member of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. A proud first generation Polish American, she was a skilled ceramic artisan. She was a creator of numerous personal and family mementos, which chronicled her family and life. Evelyn possessed a heightened sense of the finer things in life, her husband and family always came first. She lived her life in service to others, always placing them before herself. She appreciated natural beauty lived through her many summers at “camp” spent on Sacandaga Lake. She made daily living special for her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her husband Edwin, son Mark, daughter Marcia, and son in law Richard McDevitt. She is survived by her sister in law Mrs. Margaret Dickey, brothers in law, Bernard, and Robert Niedhammer, sister in law Mrs. Lillian Niedhammer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren Adam, Richard, Tavis and Mrs. Lea McDevitt. As well as her great grandchildren Evelyn, Braden, and Sakura McDevitt. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am at St, Madeleine Sophie Church, 3510 Carman Rd. followed at 11:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church. Burial will be at St Adalberts Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be made in Evelyn’s memory to St. Madeleine Sophie School.
