Rotterdam – Evelyn Lorraine Archibald, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12th, 2021. Evelyn was born in Albany, NY to her parents, the late Edward and Dorothy (Henry) Flint. She was a graduate of Dobbins Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN. After graduation, Evelyn spent several years at East Tennessee State University and later returned to the area where she met her husband, Leonard whom she married on January 10th, 1953. She then returned to school, earning her associate’s degree in Nursing from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing. Evelyn went on to work as an LPN at Ellis Hospital for over 30 years. In her younger years, Evelyn enjoyed taking yearly family vacations and camping trips with her husband and 3 children in various locations but especially at Sacandaga Lake. She often enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home in Rotterdam. Evelyn was an animal enthusiast, from cats and dogs to horses. She spent many years horseback riding and showing horses, a pastime that she enjoyed with her daughter, Kathy. In retirement, Evelyn and Leonard greatly enjoyed travelling throughout the US and the world. They also cherished their time at their seasonal homes in Florida. Evelyn had a great sense of humor and was always thinking of others. Her family could always count on her beginning to inquire about what they wanted for Christmas in July, in preparation for her yearly shopping trip to Redding, PA every Columbus Day weekend. Evelyn was predeceased in 2005 by her husband, Leonard D. Archibald Jr. She leaves behind her loving children, Michael Archibald (Jody) of Scotia, James Archibald of Guilderland (Judy, of Scotia) and Katherine Sparre (James Shafer) of Rotterdam as well as her 7 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters. Funeral services will be held privately. Evelyn will be laid to rest next to Leonard at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
