Rotterdam - Eugenio Ciaschetti ofRotterdam, New Yorkwent home to be with Jesus on December 22, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He entered his eternal home peacefully and lovingly carried by his Lord and Savior. Eugenio was born in Chieti Scalo, Italy on December 20, 1937. He is the beloved husband of Elda Ciaschetti whom he adored and was the love of his life for over 61 years. Eugenio lived a life full of adventure.He met Elda at an early age in Italy and after some convincing, Elda became his wife.Soon thereafter, Eugenio migrated to Germany for employment.While there, his first daughter, Lorella was born.Two years later, he returned to Italy where his second daughter, Paola, and son, Nico Olivero were born. In1968, Eugenio made theselflessand difficult decision to leave hisfamily andhome countryto migrateto the United States with his wife andthree young children.They settled in Rotterdam, NY. He was recruited by Simmons Machine Tool Corporation in Menands, NY where he became a master machinist forSimmons Machine Tool Corp for over 30 years. Eugenio, aka, “Gino,” was a dedicated and faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Men’s society.He was an active member, donating his time working the annual Festa, fulfilling his weekly usher role and attending Church meetings.He also enjoyed taking bus trips to Yankee Stadium with church members. Eugenio was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Club where he loved playing bocce ball. He was the MVP of his team, and his teammates would always say they could not win the championship without him.He enjoyed watching many sports teams, but his all-time favorite team to watch was the NY Yankees.He was the biggest Yankee fan in the family and his love for the team led his children and grandchildren to become Yankee fans. Eugenio adored his grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was always pitching in to make sure they were safe and fed. He would meet them when they got off the school bus and bring them back to his home to watch, feed and help them with their homework. You could also always find him at one of his grandchildren’s athletic events.In his spare time, he tended to his garden and enjoyed spending time with those he loved.He was the epitome of a family man and showed us all what it meant to put family first, and the importance of carrying on our family traditions. Eugenio was vibrant and young at heart.He enjoyed incessantly teasing Elda, and others, telling stories,playing cardsand games with his family.He enjoyed the Italian tradition of canning tomatoesevery September, but not without wearing his look alike Elvis Presley sunglasses. Eugenio had a smile and laugh that would light up the whole room.His smile was genuine, and welcoming. Everyone he met liked him instantaneously because of his grandiose loving heart.He is loved by people across the globe, with family and friends in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy and here in the US. Eugenio was one in a million. He was always donating money to those less fortunate, as worldly possessions were not important to him. He lived a simple, peaceful life.He loved God, family, friends, and animals. The family pets would flock to him as they knew what a caring and kind spirit he had. He would faithfully feed the birds around his home, sometimes giving them cookie crumbs rather than breadcrumbs. He believed birds had a sweet tooth too. Eugenio was predeceased by his parents,Nicola Ciaschetti andMaria Verzuli,in-laws Luigi Ciarciaglini and Nicoletta Orsini,as well as his oldest brother Gabriel. Relatives of Eugenio that celebrate his life are his wife, Elda Ciaschetti; his children Lorella Viscusi (Zelindo), Paola, Nico (Lori); grandchildren whom he adored, Nicolette Viscusi, Zaccari Viscusi, Caleb (Elly), Keagan, Jake, his new great grandson Luca, his brother Luigi (Maria).He is also survived by his extended family in Italy, Perino and Lucia Ciarciaglini, Francesco and Anna Maria DiPrimio, and Patrizzia and Paolo LaRoverre, as well as many nieces and nephews whosend their love from Italy. Eugenio and his family would like to thankthe ER staff at Albany Med and the ICU team for their compassionate care not only for Eugenio’s needs but for the family’s needs during a most difficult time. In honor of Eugenio, the family asks you to watch a Yankee game, play bocce ball, feed the birds, and most importantly donate blood.
