Schenectady- Esther Annette Orphanidis, age 70, passed away peacefully and without pain on Friday, July 3rd, 2020 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York, after battling illness for many years. She was born on February 11th, 1950 in Schenectady, NY. Esther is survived by her husband, Edward Orphanidis, her daughter Antoinette (Toni) M. Fretto, (husband-John Fretto) and her grandchildren, Jonathon Fretto and Tyler Fretto. She is also survived by her Aunt Mimi Salamone, who was more like a sister due to their similar age. All of Schenectady, New York. She was predeceased by her father, the Rev. Dr. Vincent Gottuso of Costa Mesa, Ca. and her mother, Esther Riggi Pagano of Schenectady, NY. Esther graduated from Linton High school in Schenectady, NY. She married her childhood sweetheart and they have been married almost 53 years. She worked for the NYS DOT and retired with 30 plus years of service. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Esther was also a fantastic cook! Her recipes are survived by her daughter Toni Fretto. The dishes will continue to be served long after her passing. Esther enjoyed trips to the casino to play the slots and bingo. Before her illness limited her ability to travel, she enjoyed shopping trips and visiting with her family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her two grandchildren whom she adored. There will be a private memorial at family’s convenience.
