Eric G Weden

Rotterdam – Eric G. Weden, 79, passed away Saturday May 22, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, he was the son of Gunnar and Ruth Allen Weden. Eric graduated from Cardinal McClusky High School in Albany and went to Hudson Valley Community College for Environmental Science. He served 6 years as a medic in the National Guard. In 1968 he met Marianne Murray and they married on March 1, 1969. Eric worked doing air quality and soil & water pollution testing for Albany County before beginning work for New York State as an engineering technician until his retirement in 1996. Eric’s #1 priority was his family and cared for each of his grandchildren as they grew. He will always be remembered as a soft spoken, kind & smiling man. He enjoyed his long walks and hikes in the Hudson Valley & Adirondacks with his family. Eric liked to travel which included 2 trips to Hawaii and being at his favorite vacation spots which were Blue Mountain Lake & Seaside in Maine. He enjoyed staying active by playing tennis and swimming and was a fan of the NY Giants, NY Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. As an avid reader and book collector Eric enjoyed the history of New York State and its’ haunted history. He was also an expert chess player and loved playing with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Marianne. Two daughters Jennifer Marie Silk and Danielle (James) Shiely. He is also survived by his six grandchildren Alexa Silk, Kristen Silk, Kaitlyn & Taryn Silk, Andrew John Shiely and Brandon Eric Shiely. The family extends their special thanks to Community Hospice for their care of Eric, especially RN Jamie B. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A Memorial Service at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eric’s memory to the American Lung Association or the Kidney Foundation.
