Ellen P (Conklin) Abbruzzese

Altamont- Ellen P. Abbruzzese, 92, at rest on Saturday January 24, 2015. Born in Milton, N.Y., Ellen was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Dowd) Conklin. She received her training to become a Registered Nurse at Bellevue Hospital and St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie and was for many years, employed as an RN at St. Francis Hospital. She married Joseph Abbruzzese on Nov. 25, 1950.They later purchased and operated the Altamont Orchards, Ellen handling the bookkeeping, among other tasks. The Altamont Orchards and Orchard Creek Golf Club are still family owned and operated.She was a longtime communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. Ellen is predeceased by her husband Joe who died in 1999. She is the beloved mother of six sons, Joseph (Dawn) of Guilderland and Venice, Fl., John (Donna), Daniel (Mary), James (Kelly) all of Altamont, Donald (Diane) of Albany, Thomas of Orlando, FL., loving grandmother of Michael, Michelle, Joseph, Anthony, Ellen, Nedra, Keri, Jillian, Danielle, Anna and Leah; beloved sister of the late James Conklin and Mary Conklin. Ellen is also survived by ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm at Guilderland's DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike (just West of Carman Rd., Route 146). Funeral services will begin 9:15 am at the funeral home, followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Madeleine Sophie, 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Joshua Foundation Inc. 1071 Joshua Lane Altamont, N.Y. 12009.
