Rotterdam- Elizabeth "Betty" Franta Scasny, 89, at rest on Sunday, January 18, 2015, surrounded by loving family. Betty was born November 26, 1925 in Endicott, N.Y., the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Franta. In the early 1950's Betty then in her 20's, came to Schenectady,where she met her beloved future husband John. Betty was employed in the Business Office at Hallmark Nursing Center in Schenectady for many years, retiring in 1989. Betty adored her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was a long time member of the former Our Lady of the Assumption Church, now Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Betty was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late John A Scasny (July, 2006); loving mother of John J.Scasny of Houston, Texas, Terry (John) Scasny Tourtellott of Latham; loving grandmother of Lauren Tourtellott of Latham, N.Y. and Brian Tourtellott of Boston, MA.; beloved sister of, Marion (James) Womack of Titusville, FL, Joseph (Helen) Franta of Merritt Island, FL., and the late Olga (Peter) Papagelis. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 21, from 5 to 7:30pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin Thursday 9:15am at the funeral home, followed at 10am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd. Rotterdam. Burial will follow in St. Cyril Cemetery, Rotterdam. Betty's family wishes to thank the staff of the Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center, Cohoes, for their recent kind care of Betty.
