Elizabeth S (Shearer) Collis

Elizabeth Collis, 91, died peacefully at Ellis Hospital on November 28, 2014, with her children by her bedside.She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Elmer Collis, assistant business agent for Local 301 IUE.She is survived by her children and their spouses: Elizabeth Collis Quigley and John Quigley, Susan Collis Kaplan and Mark Price, Brian Robert Collis and Kathy Adair; her grandchildren Brigid Quigley Brady and Patrick Brady, Gustavo Collis Kaplan; her great grandchildren Patrick Christopher Brady, Riley Elizabeth Brady and many beloved nieces and nephews. Born in Forfar, Scotland and raised in Schenectady, New York, by her parents, William and Williamina Shearer, Elizabeth graduated from Draper High School with perfect attendance for which she won an award.She continued her education with art training under the direction of artist Lewis Pelky.Elizabeth was a 50 year member of the Ladies Home Bureau, as well as an active member of a Ladies Painting Group which met weekly for decades.She became a commissioned artist of some renown in Schenectady for her land and seascapes.Her children benefited from her expertise in domestic arts which included gourmet cooking, couture sewing, embroidery, chair caning, silver etching and decorative arts. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff in the cardiac unit of Ellis Hospital.Any donations family and friends might wish to make should go to the City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St. Schenectady, NY 12305, marked: In Memory of Elizabeth Collis. Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Friday, at 11 am. Burial will be at Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery in Rotterdam.
