Elfriede (Kugel) Knaup

Elfriede (Kugel) Knaup, 86 years old, of Rotterdam passed peacefully in the morning on Tuesday, May 6 after a long illness.She spent the final hours of her life in the company of her loving family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bernhard F. Knaup; her son Peter E. Knaup of Atlanta, GA; a sister Klara (Kugel) Hermann of Schaftersheim in Germany; several nieces and nephews in the United States and Germany; and a long term care giver Lillian. Elfriede was born on September 13, 1927 in Weikersheim in Germany to the late Erich and Marie (Scheu) Kugel.She emigrated to the Schenectady area with her husband in March 1954.Elfriede worked a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime and entered retirement after several years working at the Rotterdam Price Chopper deli.Prior to her illness she was an active member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Scotia, NY.She enjoyed cooking and baking and was selfless in giving her time, love, caringand assistance to her family, friends and community. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 10-11:30am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. A Memorial Service will begin at the funeral home at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at the Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church 103 South Reynolds Street, Scotia, NY 12303 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
