Eleanor F (Spina) Capra

July 3, 1933 — February 14, 2019

Rotterdam- Eleanor F. (Spina) Capra, 85, passed away on Thursday, February 14th, 2019 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Born in Schenectady, Eleanor was the daughter of late Fortunato and Filomena (Longo) Spina. She was a graduate of Draper High School. Eleanor was employed as a secretary with the General Electric Co. for almost 40 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. In her spare time, Eleanor enjoyed bowling, bingo and trips to Atlantic City and Racino. She was also an enthusiastic Yankee fan. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Nicholas Capra and her siblings, James Spina (Angelina), Louise Troiano, Gabriel Spina, Silvio Spina (Lillian), Sesto Spina (Carmella), Julia Pasquariello (Arthur), Helena Friello and Josephine Monticolo (Joseph) along with her in-laws, Sam Capra (Marion), Rose Lombardi (Dominick), Helen Cuoco (Gerald) and Betty Mastriani. Although Eleanor had no children of her own, she was a guiding “motherly” influence in the lives of many of her nieces and nephews, who often relied upon her for guidance and advice. Eleanor is survived by her nieces and nephews, Arthur and Lidia Pasquariello, Ronald and Barbara Mastriani and Diane and Michael Babin, her brother-in-laws, Anthony Friello and Anthony Troiano as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank Maryann (Annie) Pigeon for being Eleanor’s trusted “best” friend, as well as dear friends, Lillian Mozal and Marge Pirro. Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 4 to 7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday at 10:15am at the funeral home, followed at 11am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady, NY 12303. Interment will take place at St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Eleanor will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her gentle manner, and her strong religious beliefs. Because of herattention to detail, she never missed acknowledging a birthday, anniversary, or other special event in the lives of others. Her consideration of othersthroughout her life was truly unique.
