Elaine Janice (Buttino) Valletta

Rotterdam - Elaine Janice Valletta (Buttino) passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. She was born on March 20, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Madeline (Thomas) Buttino. Elaine graduated from Draper High School in 1954 and went to work at the Darling Shop on State Street in Schenectady as a bookkeeper and Cashier. She continued her working experience at the General Electric Company in Schenectady, working in Buildings #28, 26, 2 and 5. In 1979 she and her husband Richard opened the Community Hearing Aid Service on Curry Road in Rotterdam. After 20 years they retired to enjoy themselves. Elaine was an active member of the Original Rotterdam Republican Club, serving as Secretary until the club was dissolved in 2011. She was a committee person along with her husband for district 7 and also served as an Election Inspector for many years in Rotterdam Fire District #7. Elaine was also Treasurer at one time for the Rotterdam IDA. She married Richard A. Valletta Sr. on July 30, 1961 and together they enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and boating doing one or the other almost every weekend until Richard passed away in October 2005. Elaine is survived by her son, Richard A. (Nancy) Valletta Jr., of Providence, NY, her daughter Audra M. (William) Oldorff of Providence, NY, and one special grandson, Jacob Valletta (Trista) of San Francisco, California, step granddaughter, Heather (Robbie) Heins, and two step great-granddaughters of Delanson, NY. In addition Elaine is survived by her sister Marlene (Dave) Osier of Queensbury, NY, brother Nicholas A. (Sandra) Buttino of Glens Falls, NY, sister-in-law, Mary (Michael) Valletta of Rotterdam along with many very loved nieces, nephews, and cousins who were very close to her. Special thanks to Beatrice and Jim Monroe, as well as Lewis Norton, who were like family. Funeral services will be held privately. Elaine’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside her husband at St. Cyril’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Memory of Elaine to The City Mission, 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 or a charity of one’s choice.
