NISKAYUNA - With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Eiko Helstowski on Sunday June 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unconditional love.

Born on August 11, 1937, in Kumamoto, Japan, Eiko approached life with remarkable resilience, quiet strength, and an open heart. She believed family was life’s greatest treasure and that gratitude could carry us through even the hardest days.

Eiko had a rare gift: she made everyone feel at home. Her radiant smile and playful sense of humor transformed ordinary encounters into lasting connections. Everyone who crossed her path left feeling a little more seen, a little more valued, and a little more loved.

She found delight in life’s simplest pleasures— the laughter of children, the companionship of animals, and the beauty of clouds. She taught us that joy is found in everyday moments and that the true measure of a life is not in possessions or accomplishments, but in the kindness we share with others.

Her greatest love language was often served on a plate - her legendary fried rice and gyozas. Those unforgettable meals nourished both body and soul, bringing family and friends together. No matter how many times we tried to recreate them, we all agree no one will ever make them quite like Eiko.

She is lovingly survived by Jack Helstowski, her beloved “#1 grandson”; Stephen Helstowski (Kristina); Michelle Helstowski (Paul Lawyer); Toni Conklin, (her heart daughter); Janet Helstowski (Joseph); James Grant (Marilyn); Noriko Ogata (Yoichi); and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, John Helstowski, and by beloved family members in the United States and Japan.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Eiko’s life on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a brief service at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home in Rotterdam, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to an animal rescue organization in her honor.

The greatest tribute we can offer Eiko is to live as she did: marvel at the beauty of nature, laugh often, care for children and animals, welcome others with open arms, create meals made with love, and never miss the chance to say, “Sank you, yo!” In those moments, her beautiful spirit will continue to brighten the world she so dearly loved.

Condolences can be posted at demarcostonefuneralhome.com.
