Albany- Edward “Ed” Louis Goitz passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 17 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Louis E. and Mary Ellen Murphy Goitz. He was happily married to Mary Goitz. They were together for 19 years. Ed proudly started his career at Williams Press. He then joined the United States Navy in 1970 where he served his country honorably. For the next 30 years, Ed worked as an Industrial Specialist at the Watervliet Arsenal, where he began as a floor sweeper. Ed loved music, going on adventures, travelling and being on the water. He was known for his amazing jokes, love of fireworks, the Celtics, Green Bay Packers, and Red Socks. Ed’s favorite pastime included golfing, bowling or playing poker with his friends. Ed always kept busy with projects around the house or helping his neighbors anytime he could. He loved discovering new waterfalls and the great outdoors. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, his daughter Sarah J. Goitz, step children; Jared and Greg Cherubin, his grandchildren, his brother Louis Goitz, his sisters; Mary Lou Mroczkowski, and Barbara Goitz-Kleamovich Pusateri, and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Louis and Mary Ellen. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, June 24 at 12pm at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. Ed’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all those that supported and cared forhim during his lifetime. The immediate family will be gathering for lunch at the Fairways of Halfmoon in Mechanicville directly after the ceremony at the cemetery. A separate celebration for friends will be held at a later date to be determined.
