Rotterdam - Edward A. Cardinal, 86, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2013 with his family by his side. Edward was born on March 2, 1926 in Schenectady to the late Eugene Cardinal and Malvina (Fournier) Cardinal. Edward was a World War II veteran assigned to the 45th Infantry Division participating in the Battle of the Bulge and the European theatre. Edward began a career in the United States Postal Service retaining a position of Postal supervisor in the Parcel Post division and retired in 1981 after serving more than 39 years. He was a volunteer fireman for over 12 years with Rotterdam District 2. Ed's greatest enjoyment was taking long walks with his wife and spending time with his four grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing golf, bowling and hunting. Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan (Pacelli) Cardinal; his devoted children, Kathleen (Alan) Seymour and Edward (Michelle) Cardinal and his adored grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) and Kevin Seymour and Alexandra and Rachel Cardinal. He is also survived by a sister, Claire Young of Lakeside, CA. and his brother, Eugene Cardinal of Rotterdam, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was predeceased by a sister, Yvonne Sheppard of Hemet, CA. A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Gabriel's Church 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam. There will be no calling hours and private burial will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
