Edmund "Ed" Narkiewicz passed away peacefully on January 22, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Schenectady, NY September 8, 1925 to Anthony and Pauline Narkiewicz. Ed graduated from Nott Terrace High School class of 1943. At the age of 17 he went to work at the Watervliet Arsenal honing large gun tubes. On January 15, 1944 he was inducted into the US Navy. He served in the US and the Pacific mainly in the Manila area. He was honorably discharged May 21, 1946 as a Seaman First Class. On returning home Ed went to work at the Alco in the sixth machine shop. After 11 years and the demise of Alco Ed lost his job, he then went to work on construction doing painting and sheetrock taping. At the age of 40 he went to work for the US Postal Service at the main office in Schenectady. His last job there was in the Registry Room where he handled all the accountable mail. Ed retired May 21, 1992. He was a former member of the Rotterdam Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion Post #1091 and member of the Rotterdam Elks #2157 where he was active in the work parties and visitation committee. Ed's favorite pastimes were attending polka dance weekends with Caroline and friends in the Catskills, fishing with his son Paul, making a pierogi production line with family and vegetable gardening. Family was very important to Ed,he valued his loving family and enjoyed spending time with them, celebrating special occasions along with time spent at the Sacandaga Lake family camp. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Caroline (Ciampino) who he lovingly referred to as his sweetheart for over 70 years; his three children Paulette George and her husband John of Glenville, Marie Cartwright and her husband William of Savannah, GA, Paul and his wife Jennifer of Malta. He had seven grandchildren Erica Hitzhusen and her husband Greg of Worthington, OH, Jonathan George and his wife Erika of Glenville, Stephanie Cartwright of Atlanta, GA, Ashley and Lauren Cartwright of Savannah, GA, Jessica and Sarah Narkiewicz of Malta; and four great grandchildren, Eli and Hayden Hitzhusen, Ava Leddick and Luca George. He was preceded in death by his brothers Alfred and Robert. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family at Demarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam, NY 12306 on Friday, February 9th from 5pm – 7:30 pm. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, February 10th at 8:45 am from the funeral home, followed at 9:30 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 210 Princetown Road, Schenectady, NY 12306. Burial, with military honors, will be at St’s Cyril & Method Cemetery.
