Edith S. (Eadie) Ryan, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Ellis Health Center, McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY. Eadie was born and raised in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Nicola and Teresa Savignano. She grew up across the street from Steinmetz Park where she swam in the summer and ice skated in the winter and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. After high school she worked at General Electric where she met her husband Robert (Bob) Ryan. They married in August 1949 and bought one of the first homes in Coldbrook. Eadie was a homemaker and loved collecting elephants and anything with her personal motto “Live, Love, Laugh” on it. Her unconditional love of children and laughter and life in general was quite evident in all she did. She welcomed everyone with open arms, an open heart, and a warm smile. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to the late Robert E. Ryan Jr (2002); mother of Theresa (Michael) Mueller of Niskayuna; Patricia (Stan) Suwinski of Rotterdam; Barbara Ryan of Eugene, OR; and Susan (Vince) Romano of Rotterdam. Eadie was a loving grandmother to Heather DeSano, Valerie (Christopher) Stoj, Paul (Christina) Romano, Laura (Ryan) Sprague and Shalan Ryan (Nick); and beloved Great Grandmother (Nana) to Nicholas and Machaela DeSano; Eric, Ryan, and Dylan Stoj; and Benno and August Sprague. Eadie was predeceased by her sisters Lena DeCarlo, Jennie Griffin, Phil Szenbrot, Ann Marino, Monica Griesemer, Mary Butryn; and her brothers Jim Savignano, Joe Savignano, and Mike Savignano. She is survived by her sisters Emily Durand and Virginia Zampella (Eadie’s twin) as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Calling hours will be held Sunday September 23rd from 3 to 5 pm at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home on Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10am at the funeral home followed by interment at Memory Gardens, Colonie. The family wishes to thank the staff on the Edison floor of the Ellis Health Center for the loving care they gave Eadie for the past six and half years. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eadie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
