It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Montenaro of Rotterdam on Tuesday January 13, 2025. Edith was born on January 15, 1924 to the late Maria and Antonio Califano. She leaves behind her daughter, Barbara Montenaro; her granddaughters, Kate Ruta and Kara Germano; great grandchildren, Blaise and Saige Ruta, and Ethan, Blake, and Avery Germano, all of Rochester, NY. She also leaves two brothers-in-law, Stephen and Pasquale Montenaro of Rotterdam, nephew Charles Carafano, and several nieces and great nephews as well as special people, Bob Leisenring and Rose King of Rochester.
Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leo S. Montenaro, who she loved and adored. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Angelo and Jerry Califano, Albert DiJohn, and sisters, Esther Paludi and Marie Calafano and their spouses. She also leaves behind many others and close friends.
A special thank you goes to the staff of The Villages at Mill Landing, Opal division. Rose, Rochelle, and Tara became her second family. All staff members and residents treated her with dignity and love. She came to accept Opal as her new home.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday January 22nd from 9am to 10am at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd, Rotterdam, NY 12306 followed by interment in Sts Cyril & Method Cemetery.
