Schenectady - Edgar N. Brockett, 84, passed away on Saturday November 30, 2013, with his loving family by his side. Born in Schenectady, the son of the late Edwin and Anna Marie Brockett, Edgar was a graduate of Draper High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star for his actions.With his wife he was co-owner of the Cable Guide. He then worked for many years as a mechanic retiring from the N.Y. S. Canal System. An outdoorsman Edgar enjoyed racing stock cars and RC Flying and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a longstanding member of the Lutheran Church. He was the beloved husband of 42 years to the late Helen F. Brockett (1995); beloved father of Diana E. Reed of Princetown, Bonnie McCleary of Eustis, Florida, Cindy Hislop of Schoharie; beloved brother ofthe late Norman and Clinton Brockett;loving grandfather of Kelly Weaver, Don McCleary, Sherry Saheim, Derek Reed, Cory Hislop, Cheryl Hislop and Megan Killenberger. Edgar is also survived by nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A calling period and celebration of Edgar's life will be held Wednesday from 10:30 am to 11:30 amat the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A funeral service will begin immediately at 11:30 am at the funeral home, Burial, with military honors, will follow in Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam, New York. The family requests that flowers not be sent and memorial contributions be made in Edgar's memory to the Adirondack Save A Stray, 4880 Rt. 9N, Corinth, NY 12822 or City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
