Delanson - Duane Alsum, age 66, of Delanson, New York, passed away with his family by his side on July 27, 2016. He was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on September 25, 1949. Duane dedicated his life to helping others. He served a tour in the Vietnam War, where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He applied his passion for the Gospel and theology to the strengthening of the church. Over the last several years he used his talents as a craftsman to work rebuilding homes that were destroyed by hurricanes, and help others who were in need. Duane also enjoyed being with his grandchildren, and sincerely believed that grandchildren were the reward for being a parent, and he was a great one. Duane was preceded in death by his first wife Marlene (VanDenTop), his parents Dewey and Gertrude Alsum, and his sister Marilyn. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandy and his children, Jayson (Kari), Eryn (Juvenal) Sluiter, Amber (Micah) Turner, and Alyssa (Tyler) Dabravalskas. He also leaves behind his 13 grandchildren, Jacob, Reece, and Brieanna Alsum, Makenzy, Kally, and Sophya Sluiter, Susanna and William Turner, Justin, Alexia, Haley, and Cooper Dabravalskas, and several foster grandchildren. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Duane’s homecoming on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 6 pm at Covenant OPC, 9 Trinity Place, Amsterdam, NY, 12010. A Visitation hour will be held from 5-6pm, preceding the service. Private burial with military honors will be at Saratoga National Cemetery.
