ROTTERDAM - Douglas N. Ryan, Sr., dedicated husband, father, grandfather (Papa), and great-grandpa, passed away on Monday April 29, 2024 at the age of 90. Born in Rotterdam, Doug was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Connell) Ryan. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia J. Ryan, siblings, Betty (Ryan) Sitzer and Carol Ryan, and his grandson, Anthony P. Tebano.
He leaves behind his children, Debra (Pasquale) Tebano, Douglas (Sylvia) Ryan Jr., Karen (Douglas) Borst, Scott (Vincette) Ryan, Mark (Susanne) Ryan, and Michele (Brian) Blake; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, his sister Sandra Ryan, and beloved cousins.
Doug was proud to have served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956 with an honorable discharge on January 4th, 1961, followed by a lengthy career as a welder, then consultant for the General Electric Company. He enjoyed yearly trips to Myrtle Beach, family gatherings, polishing his cars to a blinding sheen, Mike’s Hot Dogs, and a really good chocolate shake.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 9th from 10am to 12pm at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, followed by a funeral service at 12pm. He will then be interred with Military Honors at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2pm.
