Douglas A. Balasco Rotterdam - Douglas Anthony Balasco died on September 26, 2014 at the age of 53.Doug was a gracious, full of laughter, charismatic kind of guy.He loved his Miami Dolphins, Three Stooges, RUSH, family and friends and his cat Coral.A graduate of Draper High School and because of his lifelong love of airplanes, he attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Florida for Aircraft Mechanics.Doug's first career at St. Claire's Hospital in the Dietary & Engineering departments was fulfilling until he found Daytona, however Rotterdam was always home to him, and so upon his return, his second career was at Home Depot in Schenectady as a manager of the Lawn and Garden Center. Predeceased by his father Anthony Balasco.Survived by his daughters Rachel Balasco, Amanda (Robert) Willey, granddaughter Amelia Rose Willey, mother Arlene Balasco, his sister Christine (Mark) Dries, brother Paul (Pam) Balasco, nephews David and Nicholas Balasco, and Godparents Aunt Joan (Andy) Gefre' and Uncle Carmen Caruso and many cousins. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam on Sunday September 28 2014 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Funeral services will begin on Monday September 29 2014at 9:15 am the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church Schenectady at 10 am. Interment will follow at St John's Cemetery Schenectady. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Catholic Charities, 520 Hegeman Street, Schenectady, NY 12306.
