Dorothy V. Tygert

Schenectady – Dorothy V. Tygert, 93, passed away at home on Saturday, May 27th, 2023.

Born in Princetown, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Harlan A. Gifford and Irena (Blessing) Gifford.

She graduated from Draper High School and went on to work at General Electric for a short time. Later she worked at Condec as an accountant, was an accountant at Draper Pharmacy for 5 years and then worked at the Golub Corporation as manager of accounting until her retirement.

Dorothy and her husband, R. Wendell, travelled extensively throughout the US and Canada in their RV and enjoyed their winters together at their home in Florida. She also enjoyed being at her family camp on Sacandaga Lake. She would like to be remembered as a happy person who enjoyed family, friends, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and life in general, good and bad.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, R. Wendell Tygert, her son, Alan Tygert and her siblings, George Gifford, H. Durrel Gifford, Ralph Gifford and Robert Gifford.

She leaves behind her children, Carol Bailey (Jim) and Kent Tygert (Cindy); daughter-in-law, Pamela Tygert; beloved grandchildren, Mark Tygert, Teresa Kneezel (Tim), Beth Halayko (Brendan), Taraneh Fazeli, Joshua Fazeli, Jennifer Greer (Adam), Christina Stryjek (Nick) and Keith Tygert and many great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Margaret Bixby and Warren Gifford (Inge).

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 5th from 10am-11:30am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A service will begin at 11:30am. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Guilderland.

Special thanks to the Kingsway staff at the Village for all the care and making it such a great place to spend her last years and another very special thank you to Dorothy’s aid, Liz Park, for her devotion and loving care.
