Dorothy M. Morrett
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Dorothy M. Morrett, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born and raised in Schenectady, New York, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Otto and Jennie (Mastrainni) DeMania. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1951. Shortly thereafter, she met and married James Morrett Jr. on August 17, 1952. The two shared fifty wonderful years together until James’s passing on April 9, 2002.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, especially when it meant spending time with family and friends. Whether it was a camping trip, an ocean cruise, or a friendly game of cards, she was always ready to join in and share laughter and good company. Dorothy touched countless lives with her warmth and kindness and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She dedicated nearly forty years of service to various agencies within the New York State government before retiring. Her work ethic was admirable, but her devotion to her family was even greater. Those closest to her will remember her compassion, generosity, and steadfast friendship. Dorothy’s capacity for understanding and forgiveness was truly inspirational.
Dorothy and James made their home part-time in a close-knit townhome community in Clearwater, Florida, where they built lasting friendships. After James’s passing, Dorothy continued to spend her time between New York and Florida before settling permanently in Florida in 2018.
She was predeceased by her brothers Carmen and Albert DeMania, and her sister Laura A. Maynard.
Dorothy is survived by her son Michael A. Morrett (Michelle K. Chank); her grandsons Tucker J. Morrett and Samuel A. Morrett; her brother John DeMania; her sister-in-law Marian Cintula; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
