Schenectady - Dorothy Bernadine Falcone Marra passed away on Sunday, February 16th, 2020 at the age of 96. Dorothy was born in Schenectady in 1923 to Alfred and Lena Falcone and was raised by Alfred and Clara Comenzo Falcone following her mother’s death at an early age. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Dorothy married Philip J. Marra, also of Schenectady and moved with her husband to St. Louis, MO where he studied dentistry. They also lived briefly in Augusta, GA while her husband served in the US Army at Fort Gordon. After returning to Schenectady, Dorothy worked as a homemaker while raising her family. She later worked for several years for the Niskayuna School District. Always devoted to her children, Dorothy worked tirelessly as an advocate for her daughter, Jennifer and for her education as a person with disabilities. Dorothy instilled in her children a love of books and reading, the importance of hard work and education and most importantly she showed them how to be kind to all people. She had a special affection for animals and advocated for their humane treatment through her donations to several animal rights organizations. She is predeceased by her daughter, Jennifer Marra as well as her husband, Philip J. Marra. Dorothy is survived by her children; Marlene Marra Omlor (Steven) and Dr. Philip Marra (Susan). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Vanessa Omlor Mills (Terry Griesmer), Emily Omlar Cook (Ted), Beth Marra Grové (Christiaan), Kathleen Marra and Philip Marra, her great grandchildren, Nathan Mills and Cole, Sophie and Jonah Cook as well as her brother, Gene Falcone (Florence) and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. We wish to express our deep gratitude to Dorothy’s daughter-in-law, Susan Marra for the time, care and love that she gave to Dorothy. Thank you, Sue! Donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to any animal shelter or humane society or to the Center for Disability Services, 314 S Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208.
