Doris Ida Needle

Rotterdam – Doris Ida Needle, 93, passed away Saturday August 22, 2026 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Born on May 9, 1933 in Richmondville, NY she was the daughter of Ernest and Nellie (Hamm) Slater.

After graduating Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School, Doris began working at the General Electric Co. In 1951 she began her career at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. On August 4, 1957 she married Alfred Needle. When her daughter Sherie began school, Doris worked part time at Banks Typing Service. In 1983 she returned to KAPL full time and retired in 1993. Doris and Alfred enjoyed retirement with their motorhome visiting all parts of the country. While at home Doris had a passion for gardening where it was said she had the prettiest garden in the neighborhood. She was a member of the former Fisher United Methodist Church before moving to Chester, SC in 2020 and then Myrtle Beach, SC in 2025.

Her beloved Alfred died in 2012.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherie (the late David) Roseboom.

Her grandson, David A. (Rebecca) Roseboom

Her great grandson, David S. Roseboom.

Doris is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind her most favorite person in South Carolina, Jim Hayes, her daughter Sherie’s partner.

A service will be held 1pm Thursday September 10th at Saratoga National Cemetery where Doris will be laid to rest with her husband Alfred.
