Doreen C. Stack, 94, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Capital Living, Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Belfast, Ireland, Doreen came to the United States as a child, traveling with her mother and siblings to join her father who had arrived previously to provide a new life for the family. She later became a long time resident of Rotterdam. She worked for General Electric as a secretary and later for New York State Tax and Finance as a clerk, retiring in 1983. She was a parishioner of Carmen United Methodist Church, as well as president of the women's group for many years. Doreen always put one foot forward to volunteer for many activities at the church,always there to set up for rummage sales, taking charge of the Christmas cookies sales and putting together skits to perform at the Mother's day dinners. Doreen was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed music (particularly playing her own organ), gardening, crocheting, cross stitch and quilting. She treasured her short getaway trips with her dear, life-long friend Ruth.Doreen was predeceased by her parents, John and Robina Doak; her husband, Vernon and sisters Muriel, Irene, and Edna. She leaves behind her daughters, Susan Sanborn (Walter), Barbara Spiak (Robert), and sons, John Stack (Barbara), Douglas Stack (Linda), as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Thursday morning, from 11 am to 12 noon at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home.
