Donald P Lawrence

Guilderland- Donald P. Lawrence, 93,passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 18, 2013. Don was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Pietro and Philomenia (Salvador) Pileggi. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and the Spencer Business School. He was employed for many years with the General Electric Company in Schenectady, retiring in 1984 as a Regional Distribution Manager. Don was very active in his community; he was a driving force in the building of St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic School. Don was also a strong supporter of the Alpha Pregnancy Care Center; The Italian American Heritage Association and Museum and the St. Labre Indian School. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Don was the beloved husband of 66 years to the late Dorine Dahlem Lawrence; beloved father of Donna (Anthony) Haggerty-Bianchini, Mark Lawrence and Kurt (Kit) Lawrence; doting grandfather of Todd (Kristen), Kelly (Joshua), Patrick (Nicole), Meghan (Kevin), Matthew, Christopher, Daniel; loving great grandfather of Caroline, William, Anna, Madison and Molly; beloved brother of Louise Pileggi Monarch and the late Ann Huppert, Rose, Peter, Louis, Floyd "Skip" Pileggi and William Lawrence; He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A calling period will be held Tuesday, January 22, from 9to 10:45am atGuilderland's DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike (Rt. 20 just west of Carman Rd.(Route 146). Those in attendance may follow in procession for an 11:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Madeleine Sophie, 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland. Burial will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Contributions in Don's memory may be made to Community Hospice of Albany County 445 New Karner Rd., Albany N.Y. 12205 or the St. Labre Indian School Ashland, MT 59004. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Veshma and Jeanette for the loving care provided Don and Dorine over the last several years.
