Rotterdam- Donald E. Knoblauch, 84, at rest Monday February 11, 2013. Born in Gloversville, Don was the son of the late George and Cora (Handy) Knoblauch. Don served in the Army from 1945 to 1952. While stationed in Germany, Don met his future wife, Margaret. After his military service he was employed for a timeat the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. He later became a Rotterdam Policeman, rising through the ranks to Detective, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Schalmont School Board, the Woestina Reformed Church and the DAV Chapter 88, The Sons of Italy and the Rotterdam Senior Citizens.Don was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Don was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Knoblauch (1996); beloved father of George E. Knoblauch of Schenectady, Marlene O'Neill of Schenectady, Robert D.(Audrey) Knoblauch of Rotterdam, Ronald E. Knoblauch of Rotterdam; loving grandfather of Mark, Corey, Donald, Jeremy Knoblauch, Erin Ann O'Neill, Kirstin, Brian, Jaime Knoblauch; loving great grandfather of Ayden Knoblauch; beloved brother of Mabel Smida of Gloversville and the late Earl Swartz. Don is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held Thursday February 14 from 5 to 7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 8:45am at the funeral home, followed at 10am? by services at theWoestina Reformed Church, 1397 Main Street, Rotterdam Junction.Don will be buried in the spring in Woestina Cemetery.
