Colonie - Dominick J. Scicchitano, 94, passed away on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 at Van Rensselaer Manor in Troy, NY. Born in Fulton, NY, Dominick was the son of the late Salvatore and Vittoria (Procopio) Scicchitano. Dominick honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. For many years Dominick was self-employed as an operating engineer; hauling, fixing and operating heavy machinery and scrapping metal. Dominick was a member of the VFW Post 8692 in Colonie. Dominick was a dedicated son, having lunch with his mother everyday at noon at her home on Waterman Ave. He enjoyed spending time with his friends in his backyard. You could always find Dominick tinkering with his equipment but he always kept his hands clean. He was an animal lover and enjoyed gardening and moving dirt. Besides his parents, Dominick was predeceased by his former wife, Concetta (Longo) Scicchitano and his brothers, John, Benjamin and Salvatore Scicchitano. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Mary Scicchitano (Gerald Fuschino) of Rotterdam, Vicki Cook of Fredericksburg, VA and Teresa Scicchitano (Brandon deWaal) of Petersburg, NY, his sisters, Esther Cain of Daleville, VA and Connie Krystek of Stetson Hills, AZ, his brother, Frank Scicchitano of CA, grandchildren, Lindsey, Jeremy and Jason, great grandson, Gavin and his beloved feline companions, Foxy, Mama Kitty, Gray Kitty and Pretty Kitty. He is also survived by his special friend and aide of 8 years Pina, and his other devoted aides,Danielle and Cheryl as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 23rd from 5-7pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady. Funeral services will begin at 9:15am on Saturday from the funeral home, followed at 10am by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Gabriel’s Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam. Interment will be in Memory’s Garden, Colonie. Dominick’s family would like to thank the Bright Horizons Day Program, Day Haven Program in Schenectady, the Eddy Day Program and the staff at the Albany Stratton VA Hospital, the Albany County Nursing Home and Van Rensselaer Manor for their care of Dominick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302 or to the Western Turnpike Rescue Squad, 3686 Carman Rd., Schenectady, NY 12303.
