Dominick R Patierno

November 2, 1931 — April 24, 2025

Schenectady, NY. Dominick Richard Patierno passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025. In his 93 years here with us, he maintained his particular devotion to family (La Famiglia). He was a Korean War veteran and worked for General Electric for four decades. Dominick was born in 1931 in Schenectady, New York, the son of Italian immigrant parents, James and O’Linda (Pietrosanto) Patierno. In addition to his parents, Dom is predeceased by his beloved sister, Roselyn (Patierno) Demarest. Dominick grew up in inner city Schenectady (Goose Hill) and then on 2nd Avenue in Rotterdam. He attended Nott Terrace High School where he excelled in math, gymnastics, and music. After high school he worked for Canteen and General Electric where he learned electronics and high precision machining. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where his natural proclivity with electronics was put to work at various military bases involved with the Red Stone rocket program and the West Coast missile defense system. Near the end of the Korean conflict he returned to work with General Electric in the microwave tube unit where he was part of the team that built the Klystron tubes that powered high altitude radar system. He retired from General Electric in 1991. Dom met his wife, Arlene Francis (Ferraioli) Patierno in 1949. They married in 1951 and celebrated their 73rd anniversary May 2024. Together they raised two children, Linda (Patierno) Phillips (Charles) and Steven Patierno (Kim Koch). They have six grandchildren – Jennifer (Phillips) Cremins (Bobby), Christina Phillips, Kaitlyn Patierno, Nicole (Patierno) Son (Minsu), Brendon Patierno and Justin Patierno – and two great-grandchildren – Risen Cremins and Xander Cremins. When Dom graduated high school he was already proficient on clarinet. He picked up saxophone near the end of his military service and became a member of the Pete DeLuke Big Band and the Armand Riccio Band. It was at one of those concerts that he met Arlene and they started dating. One of the fun highlights of their relationship was their love of dancing and they were award-winning jitterbug dancers. Dom also had a lifelong love of fishing, especially surfcasting off Cocoa Beach FL, where he and Arlene wintered after retirement. His kids and grandchildren fondly remember incredible fish dinners from freezers full of fresh caught fish. Dom was a true outdoor active family man – coaching Little League baseball, snow skiing in the Adirondacks and Vermont, boating and water skiing at Sacandaga Lake and various others, winter camping trips with Boy Scouts, attending endless soccer games. He was a man of faith, active in Saint Gabriele’s Catholic Church for most of his life, who also recommitted his life to Jesus Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade in Albany, New York.
