udith Zeh Shafer Stack Judith Zeh Shafer Stack, 73, of Schenectady, NY, died Saturday April 20th at Albany Medical Center. Judith was born on March 3rd, 1940 to Charlotte Dantz Shafer and Robert Burdett Shafer of Delanson, NY. She attended Duanesburg Central School District, where she was active in music as a majorette and her father was supervising principal, graduating in 1958. Judy earned her Associates in Liberal Arts from Vermont College and her Bachelors in Education from Castleton Vermont State College [1960-1963]. She met her husband Raymond Stack at Castleton and was chosen as the Winter Carnival Queen in 1963.She participated in many academic and social activities while attending Castleton. Judy began her career at Glen Worden Elementary School in Scotia-Glenville as a 2ndgrade teacher. She taught 4th grade at Lincoln Elementary School from 1975 until her retirement in 2002. As a community member Judy sang Melodears (women's barbershop chorus) and helped as a coach and advisor in the Burnt Hills recreation department. Judy is survived by her husband, Raymond P. Stack; her son David and partner Christine Phillips, parents of Judy's grandson Tyler Stack; Patrick Stack and fiancé Stephanie Burns, parents of Judy's granddaughter Kiera Stack; her niece Melissa Putterman Hoffman and husband Gary, their son Nathan and daughter Jillian; her niece Jennifer Putterman and husband Jeffrey Cameron; and her cousins Robert and Ralph Worrest. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Charlotte Shafer, sister Joyce [Shafer] Putterman and her beloved dogs Misty and Indiana. Judith Stack was a dedicated teacher that made a difference in the lives of her many elementary school students. She truly loved her profession and established life-long friendships with of many of her colleagues. Judy greatly appreciated her friends, sharing much laughter and good times with them throughout the years. She was a wonderful and supportive mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren Kiera and Tyler brought much joy to her life in her later years and she loved attending each and every activity they participated in. Judy loved her dogs Misty and Indiana who were loyal companions throughout her lifetime. The mid-coast of Maine held a special place in Judy's heart and she cherished her many summer vacations there with her family. Services will be held to celebrate the life of Judy Stack from 9 am - Noon on Saturday, May 4th at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam, NY, 12306.In lieu of flowers donations can be made to JDRF [Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation].
