Domenico Palmieri, 85, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday morning. He was always surrounded by his loving family.
Domenico was born June 11, 1939 to the late Antonio Palmieri and Maria Riccio Palmieri in Ruviano, providence of Caserta, Italy. Growing up he worked in agriculture and later relocated for a time to Switzerland where he worked before marrying the love of his life. On September 15, 1963 he was united in marriage to Angela DiPalma. Together they worked their farm land with a dream to come to America to give their family a better life. In 1969 they came to America via boat with their two children; Santo and Nina, cousin Giuseppe Riccio and his wife Maria. They arrived on May 20, 1969 and Domenico quickly became employed by Sciacchetti Masonry Company. Soon after he started working for the Golub Corporation. In 1973 they welcomed their third child, Antonio.
Over the years, Domenico was very proud of his family, sacrifices and his Italian heritage. He loved to garden, make wine, homemade sausage and sauce. He loved to play bocce and scopa-Italian card games. He was known for having the craziest stories, which he loved to tell, especially about his adventures back in Italy and his motorcycle, the Motto Guzzi. He adored his flowers and was very pleased to see his hard work blossom. He loved when his wife would make pepper cookies.
Domenico leaves behind his devoted, loving wife of 61 years Angela Palmieri and their children; Santo (Marcy), Nina (David Huffman) and Antonio (Kimberly). His favorite grandchildren; Maria, Bobby, Angelo (Nichole), Tiffany, Santo Jr., Natalie and Giovina. His loving great grandchildren; Dimaant, Dennis, Amara, Luciano, Lorenzo and Luca, his pride and joy, as well as his inherited granddaughter Mya. He also leaves behind two sisters of CT; Assunta (Gemaro) Morgillo and Gloria (Vittorio) Rinaldi, three sisters-in-law; Amelia and Antoinette, of CT and Ilma of Italy.
Domenico was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Maria Palmieri, his in-laws Santo and Rosina DiPalma, as well as several brothers and sisters; Raffaele, Anna (Domenico) Santabarbara, Teresa (Domenico) Riccio, Raimondo (Lucia) Leone, Elena (Jon) Sytko and Arcangelo.
