Broadalbin - David A. Ward passed peacefully on August 4, 2022. It was his wish to remain home on the lake during his final days. This was made possible through the love and support of his daughter Terri and wife Hope, son David and wife Heather, his granddaughter Monica Poulson, his dear friends Allen Gates and Gary Hines, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice. David was the youngest of eight siblings, all raised in the home surrounding Ward and Sons Store on Rt 20 in Guilderland, now replaced by the Guilderland Fire Department. David always praised his sisters (Katherine, Roberta, Ella, and Sis) for doing a great job raising him and thanked his brothers (Lewis and Jack) for paving the way for his silly antics. David took a gap year after graduating high school by working in the family store. After that year he decided working in the family business was not for him, so he attended Mohawk Valley Technical Institute where he met his wife, Virginia Holz. David landed a job with the General Electric Corporation in the appliance division, covering the northeast territory. He was awarded top sales honors throughout his career winning trips to San Francisco, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Switzerland. Though work kept him busy he and Virginia moved to Knox, where they started a mobile home park. He volunteered in the Knox Volunteer Fire Company, the Sacandaga Boat Club and Kiwanis. David was often “tinkering” as he called it which meant he was rebuilding a car, fixing machinery, cutting wood for winter or getting a boat ready for summer. David spent every summer, and winters in retirement, on the water by going for boat rides, teaching everyone to water ski or providing a bumpy, fun filled tube ride on the lake. After his wife of nearly 60 years passed due to Alzheimer’s Disease, Dave spent his time fully dedicated to family by secretly stopping in and fixing a leaky pipe, brush hogging a field, or wiring a light. He especially loved Sunday dinners at his son’s restaurant and attending his grandsons’ concerts and sporting events. All will remember him fondly as a favorite uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. A celebration of his life will occur on Monday, August 15, 2022, at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home located at 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland, NY. Calling hours are from 11:00am-1:00pm, with the funeral occurring around 1:00. The burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mountain Valley Hospice or the American Heart Association.
