David J. Rey, 73, a lifelong resident of Rotterdam, died peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. Dave was the son of the late John and Ann Sobieski Rey. He Graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. He later graduated from HVCC and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Regents College. After graduating from HVCC, he joined the 109th Air National Guard Unit in 1964 where he was trained as a Pharmacist and later as a Lab Technician. In 1973 Dave transferred to the Army National Guard Headquarters Unit in Latham where he was a Personnel Specialist. He retired in 1992. Dave began working at the NYS Police NYSPIN Unit during its infancy. He was a computer Programmer and had skills which enabled him to assist in solving crimes and bringing many harmful offenders to justice. During his 37 year career, he worked closely with many local, state and federal agencies as a special computer search expert. Dave was a member of the Schenectady Jaycees, and throughout his life believed that “service to humanity is the best work of life”. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks and He later also joined the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary where his efforts in fund raising were well known. He served on the Gift of Life board and was an active endorser of the Rotary International Foundation. He served several times as President of the Rotterdam Sunrise Rotary Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Dave and his wife resided in the West Hill community for 50 years. During that time Dave was active in chairing the annual fall roast, and for 44 years was the auctioneer in the neighborhood Christmas Auction, which raised thousands of dollars for the SICM food program. He served on the West Hill Corporation Board and was its president for several years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church from 1968 until it closed in 2009 serving as president of the Parish Council, was active on the finance committee and was a church lector. He and his wife then joined St. Madeleine Sophie in Guilderland. Dave also volunteered at the Salvation Army’s Soup Kitchen in Schenectady. In addition to his parents, Dave was also predeceased by his sister Janice Rey, his mother and father in law; Jerry and Rose Casile and sister in law; Rosemary Pascucci. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Jane Casile Rey, his son; Stephen Rey of San Diego, CA., daughter Amy Rose Aho and son-in-law John Aho of Phoenix, AZ., brother in law Carmen (Barbara) Casile and brother in law Anthony Pascucci as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 pm at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd. in Guilderland. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Saturday, 10 am at the Church. Burial at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, Dave has requested the memorial donations be made to the Rotary Foundation SHARE Program of Rotary International to credit District 7190.
