It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David A. Peek, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished friend, doting grandfather, and dedicated teacher. David left us surrounded by his family at home under the care of Community Hospice, on Thursday July 24, 2025. David was born March 1, 1951 in Albany, NY, to the late Robert and Isabelle (Sparrow) Peek.
David was raised in Middleburgh, NY and graduated from SUNY Brockport with a degree in Education. He was a lifelong educator for over 30 years at Schoharie Central School District. His passion for teaching extended far beyond the school walls. Though he believed in a structured approach, it was intertwined with patience and a deep sense of purpose. He inspired countless students and colleagues through his love of learning and genuine care for others.
A true conversationalist and avid reader, David had a gift for making people feel seen and understood. His words carried warmth, humor and wisdom, whether shared over coffee, across a dinner table or from the sidelines of a basketball game.
Basketball was one of his great passions, a sport he loved to both play and watch. Traveling brought him joy, as he embraced adventures both near and far. It was the simple-pleasures , good friends, great company, and long talks-that made his life rich.
Above all, David was a family man. He was the deeply devoted husband of Mary Carrigan-Peek, his partner in every sense of the word, whose love and laughter were the cornerstones of his life. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, respect and enduring love.
He was a proud and loving father to Meghan Nash (Peek), who he guided with wisdom, humor, and constant support no matter the playing field she was on. His grandchildren were his delight-each one a source of joy and pride. His presence was a true gift that will be cherished for a lifetime.
David is survived by his wife, Mary, his daughter, Meghan (Michael) Nash, grandchildren, Raegan Carrigan Nash and Callahan David Nash, brother, Bob (Vicki) Peek, step-siblings, Frank (Dottie) Clapper, Kevin (Kathy) Clapper, Phillip Clapper, and Jeanne Hawkins.
A celebration of David’s life will take place on Tuesday August 5th at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carmen Rd, Schenectady, NY 12303. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. As we gather to celebrate the life of David, we want to honor him in a way that reflects his vibrant spirit. We kindly invite you to wear bright colors to his services. Let this be a reflection of the light he brought into our lives. Thank you for helping us honor him in this special way.
