David A Longo

Duanesburg - David A. Longo, 62, of Duanesburg, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2021. Born at Ellis Hospital, David was the son of the late Dominick and Ann Jantella Longo. He attended Schalmont High School when it was convenient for him. Dave began working in the family business, Empire Paving, shortly after learning to walk. He was extremely skilled at repairing just about anything. His mechanic ability was extremely beneficial to the building up of the business from early on. Dave also operated all the different equipment of the company but his favorite was grinding up asphalt and shooting it onto dump trucks in rapid succession. Dave liked to pass on his knowledge and enjoyed mentoring his children, nephews and nieces in teaching them about the equipment and business with love and patience. Up until his passing, Dave co-operated the business for over 45 years with his father Dom and brother Rick. Dave married his high school sweetheart, Beth Lewandowski on April 28, 1978. Their loving marriage and friendship is a tremendous example of true love and commitment which they passed on to their children who found the same love and friendship in their marriages. Dave was very talented at improving the homes they shared together and always had a beautiful yard. Working with Beth most times making something beautiful out of what someone else discarded. Dave took pride in many things and his most joyous time was spent with his grandchildren, Andrew Longo, Gabriella Macherone and Sofia Rose Longo. His grandchildren now enjoy knowing humorous stories from his life that he has shared with them and they can carry with them always. His life was filled with many family vacations and partying, which he was exceptionally good at. We know the extended family and cousins will miss him greatly. While Dave didn’t attend church much, it was obvious he was having church regularly with the Lord in his heart. At the end, revealing his conversations with the Lord to his family. He is definitely now reunited with his parents and his son who have gone before him. David Jr’s early passing was a very difficult time for him. He cherished his special bond with his daughter in law Josepha. Anyone who knew Dave can attest to his humble and gentile spirit. He will be greatly missed. In addition to his parents, Dave was also predeceased by his son David A. Longo Jr. and sister, Donna Longo, his mother in law Dorothy Cook Lewandowski and brother in law, Charles Lewandowski III. Dave is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth Lewandowski Longo, his children, Heather Ann Longo and Dominick Charles (Ashley) Longo, grandchildren; Andrew Longo, Gabriella Macherone and Sofia Rose Longo, daughter in law; Josepha (Craig) Macherone, his siblings, Tom (Sharon) Longo, Robert Longo, Judy (Tom)Young , Mariann (Jim) Brand, and Rick (Tammy) Longo, father in law; Charles Lewandowsk Jr., brother in law and sister in law; Corey (Tricia) Lewandowski and Helen (Gerry) Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30 am. Burial will follow the service at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you perform an act of kindness or donate to a charity of your choice.
