Schenectady - Daniel F. Hickey Jr, age 85, passed away at the Schenectady County Glendale Home after a brief illness on December 31, 2020. Dan was born in Pittsfield, MA on October 21, 1935 to the late Daniel and Pauline Casey Hickey and was a lifelong Schenectady resident. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Dan served in the US Naval Reserves and was a member of Teamsters Local 294 where he worked in the parcel and freight industry working for UPS and Meehan’s Express and finally retiring from the Town of Rotterdam. Dan was an avid weight lifter all of his life and in addition had a great love for antiques. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. In addition to his parents, Dan was also predeceased by his beloved daughter; Maureen Kara Hickey and his sister Bernadette Hickey O’Connor. Dan is survived by the love of his life, his wife Anita DeCarlo Hickey, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 6th 2020, his son Patrick A. Hickey of Rotterdam, NY and his brother; Francis (Mary) Hickey of Schenectady. The family would like to thank the staff of Mohawk Trail Unit at the Glendale Home for all the love and care they provided for Dan who was suffering from Alzheimer’s. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 210 Princetown Rd. on Friday, 10 am. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville, NY.
