Rotterdam, NY-Mr. Daniel J. Hackett, age 73, of Rotterdam, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady in the loving care of his family. He was born on Sept. 8, 1942, in Hartford, CT son of the late Bernard J. and Grace (Hardy) Hackett and educated in Schenectady schools.He furthered his education attending college in Albany.Mr. Hackett was a longtime employee of the General Electric Company, retiring after 38 years of dedicated service as an accountant, receiving the Elfun Service Award for meritorious service and also belonged to the GE quarter century club. He served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict from 1966 until 1969, when he was honorably discharged.He was the recipient of the US Army Commendation Medal and was past commander of the Rotterdam Disabled American Veterans. He was a communicant of and very active with St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Mr. Hackett was very involved in the community and served as an official umpire belonging to the Capital District Footballs Association for 25 years, New York Association of Certified Football Officials, Inc., receiving a merit award in 2012, Schenectady Baseball Umpire Organization for 25 years, receiving the distinguished service award in 2014, Capital District Wrestling Officials Association from 2003 until 2010.He also was a member of the Rotterdam Elk's Lodge.A loving and devoted family man, Mr. Hackett will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife Madaline at home; his children, Jeff Hackett and wife Tara of Rockville Center, NY, Michele Garrow and husband Bob of Rotterdam; grandchildren, Christian and Tyler Hackett and Logan Garrow; a sister, Gail Diffley and husband Michaelof Schenectady, and Bonnie Brisk and husband Frank Schenectady; mother in law, Rosalie Conti;in laws, Pat and Keith Carpenter and Tony and Mary Jane Conti all of Rotterdam.He was preceded in death by his parents. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015.The funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Monday, November 9, 2015 from the chapel of the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home where prayer will be offered and at 10 am from St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Rotterdam where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.Procession will follow to St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady where interment will take place. The following organizations will gather at the funeral home to conduct ritualistic services on Sunday afternoon:Rotterdam Disabled American Veterans at 4:30 and the Rotterdam Elk's at 5:30.Kindly consider memorial contributions to Avyen Angel's c/o First New York, Rotterdam or to the Tyler DeMarco Foundation; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
