Cora E. White (Ballard)
April 20. 1938- February 23, 2026
Cora passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born on April 20, 1938, in Halcott Center to Wardell Ballard and Bessie Mead. She lived a life marked by love, devotion and quiet strength to her children, 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Cora was a former resident of Rotterdam, NY where she took her ceramic hobby and turned it into a successful business Cora’s Ceramics which she ran for many years.
Cora married George L White in 1955, beginning a love story and partnership that spanned decades. Together they raised eight children: Harry (Nancy) White, John (Terri) White, Larry (Wanida) White, Elayne (Bill) Wade, Vicki White, Capri (Tony) DeMarco, Dawn (Terry) Zarrillo, and Vincette (Scott) Ryan. She is survived by her sister Ellen Todd. Cora was proud of all her children, grandchildren and great children and loved to support and talk about their dreams and successes.
Cora was an active and caring member of her community. Volunteering with DAV Chapter 88 in Rotterdam, NY and was a familiar, friendly presence at Rotterdam Senior Center where she worked in the kitchen and shared her artistic talents teaching ceramics. Her creative mind was always working on something crafty for a gift to give someone, be it needlepoint, quilting, knitting/crocheting. In her later years she enjoyed her spirited trips to the casino, doing a puzzle, but mostly talking and visiting with her family.
Cora’s legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the kindness she showed, the humor to lighten your load, honesty and strength to face life’s challenges with grace. Her memory will shine forever through stories shared, lessons learned and love given freely. She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cora is predeceased by her parents Wardell and Bessie Ballard, her loving husband George White, and her siblings Millard Ballard, Donald Ballard, Eleanor Williams, and Betty Battisto.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare professionals at Southern Life Assisted Living in Lake Placid, Florida for the exceptional care, compassion, and attention they provided Cora during her time with them.
As per Cora’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
